Des Moines, IA (March 28, 2018) – Mainframe Studios presents an open artist studio event every first Friday evening of the month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Each event features a unique art form, music and pop-up dinner menu by The Tangerine Food Company. For its Friday, April 6th event, Mainframe Studios will highlight The Red Door Press and their special exhibition of national letterpress printers.
The Red Door Press is one of the fastest growing letterpress studios in the U.S. and is interviewed in the full-length documentary “Pressing-On: The Letterpress Film,” scheduled to be screened before a sold-out crowd at the Des Moines Art Center on Saturday, March 31st. The Red Door Press is owned by Tammy and Adam Winn, located in Studio #120 at Mainframe Studios. The couple has also created a large temporary art installation in the nonprofit’s atrium entrance area for the April 6th open house.
Holding monthly public events since opening in October 2017, Mainframe Studios has welcomed over 6,000 visitors through its doors. First Friday attendees can explore six nonprofit spaces and 65 artist studios representing 25 art forms including glass blowing, gaming, jewelry, painting, ceramics, clothing design, string art, woodworking and much more.
Mainframe Studios is a nonprofit providing permanent affordable workspace for artists of all disciplines in the former CenturyLink building at 900 Keo Way in downtown Des Moines. Three of the five floors are finished and the organization is currently fundraising to finish renovations. There is a growing list of artists waiting for more studios to open. Once complete, Mainframe Studios will the largest nonprofit workspace for artists in the country.
Its May 4th First Friday open studio event will feature acclaimed music album cover artists Jay Vigon and Margo Nahas, a classic rock musical guest, and City Sounds’ newly-adorned public pianos before they are delivered to locations throughout the Des Moines area.
