Mainframe Studios mini-golf course is setting the tone for interactive art in Des Moines Brock McDonough | 06/30/2022

Putt Putt Art invites artists to create playable miniature golf holes to be located throughout the 160,000 square-foot artist studio building. The course was unveiled in a Tee-Off Opening Ceremony on June 21st, 2022, during the 8th annual Art Week Des Moines celebration.

Mainframe Studios is hosting an artist-built putt putt event throughout the 3 open floors of the studio. The event features six mini golf holes that people of all ages are invited to play. Each mini golf hole has a theme of its own that shows off the creativity of our local artists.

This putt-putt course is the first mini golf event that Mainframe is hosting, although director Siobhan Spain says she hopes to make this a yearly Art Week tradition. A lot of the artists that made the holes for the course were forced to step outside of their comfort zone and make something that they don’t normally get the chance to create. Creating positive engagement in the arts for all ages is an important topic for Mainframe Studios. This event was evidence of the importance of community engagement as families from the Des Moines Area and friends of artists are visiting the art studio to celebrate Art Week Des Moines.

Research by Americans for the Arts has shown that communities with a vibrant cultural scene are more desirable to live in, have greater economic sustainability and attract a more diverse and educated workforce.

Mainframe Studios is honored to be a part of Art Week Des Moines and be able to contribute to the celebration of the creativity of local artists in the Des Moines Area.

Come join family and friends this Friday, July 1st from 5pm - 8pm for our monthly First Friday event. The putt putt course will be open to all as a closing celebration as well as food, drinks, and other events throughout the studio!
