BE A CULTURAL ADVENTURER //John Busbee’s The Culture Buzz takes center stage to launch a new era of promoting the arts and culture in Central Iowa. John has been sharing stories, interviews and news since 2007 on KFMG 98.9 FM and he’ll be introducing new programming on theculturebuzz.com. Come learn how to get cultured and enjoy a wealth of creative entertainment while you’re here.

  • MAKE ART /Award-winning author John Schlimm shares his public art project “The Smile that Changed the World (Is Yours)” in the Big Room event space.
  • GET DOWN / Pop-art music sensation Ramona and the Sometimes makes magic happen in our first floor atrium.
  • HEAR VOICES / The emerging vocal talent guided by City Voices will blow your socks off in our common area on the fourth floor.
  • MEET ARTISTS / Throughout Mainframe’s building, explore 75 artist studios that are filled with diverse talent and disciplines. 
  • EAT & DRINK /Tangerine Food Company serves up creative dishes and refreshments at each First Friday event. This month look forward to Bourbon BBQ Pork or Chicken with baked beans and slaw, and Moonshine cocktails at the bar. As well as Homemade Dog Treats (For Dogs!) inspired by author John Schlimms latest books Extraordinary Dogs and Moonshine.

As always, our open studio events are free and open to the public. We feature a different genre of art each time so visitors can learn more about the variety of art disciplines represented at Mainframe Studios and in our region. While you're here, visit our 75 studios, listen to a guest musical performance and enjoy food and drink by The Tangerine Food Company. Make a night of it at Mainframe.
