Painting
As a child, the moment I saw my grandfather painting, I immediately knew this tactile and expressive
process would become a part of my life. Fast forward to mid-life and, with well over 15,000 hours
invested, the practice has come to represent the quest of a life replete with a constant learning in
relation to the language of painting, and a means to fill the shadowy void of what can often seem the
meaningless journey of life.
One spends the days observing, seeing, listening, and being acutely present, so that the hand, the heart,
and the mind, can work together in the highly personal process of creating. Painting, thus, is a place one
journeys to, childlike, into the realm of an authentic interpretation of thoughts and ideas.
My practice has been an inquiry into the modern American West and Midwestern life, forming
contemporary reflections of man and the Landscape, with a permanent studio practice at
www.mainframestudios.org in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, and current gallery representation at
www.the-westerly.com in Steamboat Springs, Colorado starting late 2023.
