April's First Friday: DIVERSE BY DESIGN | ART + ACCESSIBILITY

Join us at Mainframe Studios on April 4, 2025, from 5-8 pm for a groundbreaking First Friday event! We're excited to present the DIVERSE BY DESIGN | ART + ACCESSIBILITY exhibition, which explores the intersection of art, diversity, and accessibility through multisensory engagement and inclusive design.

Curated by Jill Wells, an Iowa-based interdisciplinary artist and advocate, this exhibition provides an opportunity to connect more deeply with art in ways that are both accessible and inclusive. It’s a celebration of diversity, accessibility, and human connection, creating a multi-modal experience that’s truly one-of-a-kind.

In addition to the exhibition, enjoy open artist studios, live music, delicious food and drinks, and creative entertainment across all five floors of the building. With expanded overflow parking and free shuttle service, getting here is easy and convenient.

Layered Exhibition

Layered is an exhibition curated by Brittany Brooke Crow. The exhibition is the result of Mainframe Studios first ever call for entries for a First Friday. Mainframe Studios received a record of 286 entries by 123 artists living and working in Greater Des Moines, and 57 objects by 48 artists were selected. Layered will be on exhibit throughout the month of February.

Art is located in our 1st, 2nd, and 4th-floor gallery spaces. Check out the Within the Layers exhibition in the 3rd floor Gallery space which features art from Iowa State University Students.

Join us for a community-wide celebration of Latino art and culture on First Friday, July 5th from 5-8pm at Mainframe Studios. There will be art, food trucks, piñatas, lowriders and art activities – all designed and organized by artists Seso Marentes and Siricasso. Explore 5 floors of open artist studios and view works on exhibit by Miriam Alarcon Avila, Anthony Arroyo, Ashley Guzman, Linda Eclat, and a powerful exhibition, “smile now, cry later,” by Siricasso.
