Mainframe Studios, the largest nonprofit creative workspace in the nation, is seeking an Administrative Assistant to be part of our dynamic team!

About Us

Mainframe Studios, located in downtown Des Moines, is the largest nonprofit creative workspace in the nation. We provide affordable workspaces to advance equity and opportunities in the arts. Our vibrant community includes 220+ creatives working across 181 studios, along with a venue rental space and an on-site caterer.

Position Summary

As an Administrative Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting Mainframe’s daily operations, events, and community relationships. This 20 hour per week, part-time, hourly position offers flexible work hours (10am-3pm, Monday – Friday) and a blend of in-office and remote work. Hourly pay range $17-$20/hr based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Core Operations Support:

    • Assist with studio rentals, professional development sessions, First Fridays events, K-12 art experiences, venue rentals, and tenant meet-ups.

    • Handle general email and phone inquiries, document sorting, scanning, filing, and donor correspondence.

    • Update artist-tenant contact lists, intercom details, website directories, and printed materials.

    • Regularly update community calendars, issue press releases, and update the website with upcoming Mainframe events and artist-tenant classes and workshops.

  • Customer Service, Tenant Relations, and Community Building:

    • Create a welcoming environment for guests and artists-tenants.

    • Foster a culture of hospitality and inclusion.

    • Creatively solve problems and help maintain quality experiences.

  • Office Administration:

    • Oversee day-to-day office activities.

    • Coordinate building event calendar.

  • Property Management:

    • Work with the Property Manager to manage building and community spaces.

    • Provide AppFolio technical support to artists-tenants.

    • Handle studio applications and waitlist communications.

  • Other duties as assigned based on interest and experience.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of administrative support experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Google Workspace, Squarespace, and Canva.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities.

  • Proactive, positive, and curious mindset.

  • Desired background in one area: graphic design, social media management, marketing and communications, property management, event management, or systems management.
