Mainframe Artist Awarded Iowa Arts Council Fellowship

Des Moines, IA – Brittany Brooke Crow is pleased to announce that she has received an Iowa Artist Fellowship from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Brittany Brooke Crow uses image-making to confront her fear of vulnerability. Her work explores intimacy, ways of seeing, and the expansive possibilities of photo-based art. She considers the performative action necessary to create an image as an inherent part of the content of her work. In 2020, Crow turned the camera toward herself to investigate what happens to our understanding of the representation of the nude body when the artist and model are one and the same. With support from a project grant, the culminating installation Exhibition(ist) questioned what it meant to see and be seen. Crow received a BFA in studio art and a BA in art history from the University of Northern Iowa in 2013. She is currently working out of Mainframe Studios in Des Moines.

Fellows receive a $10,000 grant plus professional development opportunities to advance their careers. The Artist Fellowship Program provides support to artists, filmmakers, musicians and creative writers who demonstrate exceptional creativity and the capacity to contribute to the innovation and elevation of the arts in Iowa.

Funding for the Iowa Artist Fellowship is made possible by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
