NEWS RELEASE / Lauridsen Family Announces $1 Million Dollar Matching Gift

Mainframe Studios

Des Moines, Iowa (June 8, 2021) – Community leaders, arts advocates and artists gathered this past Friday, June 4 to celebrate “Critical Mass” a large-scale permanent mural that will cover the entire exterior façade of Mainframe Studios’ five story building located at 900 Keosauqua Way in downtown Des Moines. During this celebration the Lauridsen family announced a generous gift in the form of a community challenge. They will match contributions, dollar-for-dollar, up to a million dollars for a total campaign goal of $2M. These funds will allow Mainframe Studios to renovate its final floor and achieve its financially self-sustaining business plan.
“Mainframe Studios is demonstrating what can happen when communities value their artists as much as they value their art museums, opera houses, arts festivals and sculpture parks,” said Siobhan Spain Director, Mainframe Studios. “We are so grateful to the Lauridsen family for valuing our local art community.”

As of March 2021, Mainframe Studios has four of its five floors renovated and a total of 131 studios. These recent renovations came in under budget and occupancy was 100% within 30 days of completion.

“Des Moines has a wealth of artists, these talented individuals inspire innovation and creativity,” said Nix Lauridsen, Community Philanthropist. “Des Moines has been very good to me and it’s important to me to give back and support local artists that are helping to put Des Moines on the map as a world-class art city.”

“The support of the Lauridsen’s and so many others have established Mainframe Studios as a national leader in the non-profit art community,” added Spain.

Final renovations are expected to begin by the end of year with studio space available in 2022.
