Mainframe Studios, located in downtown Des Moines, is the largest nonprofit creative workspace in the nation. We provide affordable workspaces to advance equity and opportunities in the arts. Our vibrant community includes 220+ creatives working across 181 studios, along with a venue rental space and an on-site caterer.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR | Part-time, Non-Exempt
$20/hr for 24 hours per week + monthly First Friday events

Overview // In partnership with the Executive Director, Property Manager, Operations & Communications Coordinator, coordinate monthly First Friday events and related programs, support visitor services, and assume related administrative duties. 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Visitor & Tenant Engagement:

In collaboration with the team, 

  • Create a welcoming environment and foster a culture of hospitality and inclusion.

  • Be physically present to welcome and answer questions from visitors and tenants.

  • Solve problems to maintain quality experiences for visitors and tenants.

Organizational Programming & Development:

In collaboration with the ED, 

  • Plan and coordinate First Friday events:

    • Communicate promptly and often with artists, the curator, exhibition preparator, event management team, music entertainment, performance groups, food, & art vendors. 

    • Create and 

    • Work on upcoming First Friday event while managing future scheduled First Fridays up to 2 years in advance.

    • Convene meetings to plan with community groups and artists. 

    • Work with the Graphic Designer and vinyl sign printer to meet deadlines. 

    • Design any needed First Friday directional signage and vinyl signs. 

    • Send out reminders to all participants and manage expectations. 

    • In collaboration with the Communications Coordinator:

      • Develop any needed First Friday press releases

      • Prepare the public E-Newsletter for upcoming First Friday events & Mainframe News. 

      • Share info in advance for social media promotion of First Friday and featured artists & special guests

    • Be present to help set up and execute First Friday events on the First Friday of each month from 1:30pm-8:30pm and professionally handle last-minute changes.

  • Coordinate other public events as needed

  • Create, build, and maintain contacts and connections with artist-tenants, local artists & creatives, food vendors, musicians, and arts and culture nonprofits for future collaborations.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have….

  • 2+ years of event management, arts administration, or gallery experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Google Workspace and Canva.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proactive, positive, outgoing, and curious mindset. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to the arts.

Anticipated start date by February 17, 2025. *Please note this part-time position will require work in-person, Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4pm, with additional evening hours during monthly First Friday events.
