COVID RESPONSE / Gretchen Bohling Sews Masks with a Little Help From Her Friends

Mainframe Studios

Mainframe Artist Gretchen Bohling has converted her studio into a mask making machine. She has partnered with DMACC, DART and fellow artists to respond to Covid-19 emergency needs.

Partnering with Des Moines Area Community College Fashion Program to provide instruction and materials, Gretchen and a team of clothing designers are making masks to donate to healthcare professionals and Unity Point and other hospitals.

Fellow Mainframe Artist Sue Penn has donated material to the cause through her work designing fabric for major manufacturering labels.

Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority has also reached out to order 200 masks for their employees. Gretchen is working with Kathy Smith Designs to fill this large order.
